About

Hi, I'm Lauren and this is my little corner of the great big internet.

I'm a wife to one and a mama to two. I'm a hesitant seamstress, an ironically good chef, and a huge fan of high fives (don't hug me without permission, please- even if I am from the South!).

I'm an Alabama girl who fell in love with a Texas boy- who just so happened to be an Air Force officer that whisked me out of my homeland and into the wild and crazy outside world. Never in a million years did I think that I'd live this far from "home", much less on a path to move every two or three years- but when you find true love, you hang on tight and see where God brings you. So far that hasn't failed us too much, and it has led us on many unforgettable adventures.

Our Wedding Day

It all started with some short conversations on eHarmony that ended up with a joke proposal before our first date (at CiCi's...yes, the pizza buffet. This is where my husband says he knew I was the one). It was love at "Does this smell like Chloroform to you?" (which sounds a lot sketchier than it was...but this is where I knew he was the one because I loved his sense of humor). Then, we hurried things along with a "yes" a month later when he proposed, an "I do" five months later when we walked down the aisle and we continue to choose to say "yes" again, every single day, for the rest of our lives. It might not be conventional, but it's our story...and I kind of love it.

Otters and Cakes (A Few Years Ago)

We have two daughters, who this blog is named after. Our eldest is commonly referred to as Cakie or Cakes. It has no relation to her legal name. She doesn’t even go by her legal name. It just sounds good with the name we call her by. She’s eight. She likes cats and reads a lot. She’s autistic. She’s awesome. Our youngest is Otter, though we really call her something more like Odder or Odder the Otter. It’s from her legal name, which if you think hard enough you can probably figure out. She’s five. She loves everything and everyone. She just loves big and that’s one of the things I love most about her. She’s feral…but also snuggly. It’s an odd combination, but that’s just how we are.

I have no real clue what I really want to write about here yet. It’s probably going to be all over the place and more just a place to share my thoughts on various things. There’s gonna be some Jesus, because he’s pretty important in my life. There’s going to be some thoughts on parenting (even though I might be the worst mom ever, so you probably should disregard any advice I give). Parenting a special needs child will probably show up. Autism and its effect on all of our lives (we’re all a little neurospicy in here). Marriage. Homeschooling. Who knows what else. It’s a great big question mark at this point. Maybe it's a mystery blog where you never know what the next post will be about!
